This piece has been a joy to work on. I have repaired, reimagined and sympathetically painted it. It dates back to 1780 but has elements of the 17th Century (for example the Jacobean arch) that were added during this time to make it appear older. In the late 19th Century, many antique pieces were altered via the addition of carving, invoking earlier eras. Ladies of leisure copied patterns from the Lady’s Home Journal to ‘age’ longcase clocks and furniture. Principally though, this piece has been dated as late 18th Century.

I have sanded, fixed, filled, stripped, waxed and painted it to create a piece that honours the original craftsmanship but also feels right for me and my work. It has taken me a great deal of time to complete this makeover carefully and sensitively.

The hardware is all original and has been cleaned and polished to shine once again. The thought of someone having this piece in their home and loving it, giving it many more years to come in the 21st Century is very exciting for me.
